About me

As a designer-maker specialising in slip casting, my practice takes joy as a starting point. I see joy as those small moments that evoke a positive reaction throughout the day. From a maker's point of view, ceramics bring me joy because of the slip casting process and being able to recreate an object intended for everyday use through batch production. I bring joy to the users of my objects by considering them throughout my whole design process, from primary research to the final product which makes my objects want to be used in an everyday setting. I focus on functional ceramics that will be used within homes, restaurants or cafes and apply form, colour, tactility and pattern design in my objects.

By exploring with texture, into plaster or clay, I prioritise pattern design to create a tactile experience and utilise shapes that are around me as inspiration for my designs. I explore this in many ways, such as carving into plaster or adding onto the clay surface. My pieces are often minimal, but I consider tactility to be equal to form and colour in my work.

Inspiration from colour in my work often depends on the collection with what I am making and if there is a narrative that strongly backs up colour. I enjoy using gradients across collections to connect objects together.

When designing and making, the relationship between the user and the object is crucial for me. I always consider how each element of my work would make the user feel through primary research such as surveys. Surveys are a key part of my design process, as I believe it assists with understanding of what the users desire within a product. I enjoy creating functional ceramics that the user can be fulfilled with when using them in everyday life.

The majority of my experience within ceramics, comes from studying Three-Dimensional Design at Manchester School of Art from 2018 - 2021.
